Are you suffering from bad acne?
A lot of people are suffering from bad acne. This phase in one’s life can be really tough and for others, this can be quite traumatic. There are instances that some teenagers who are suffering bad acne are very shy in school and causes depression. A lot of people who are suffering from bad acne are often timid, lacks confidence and are insecure. But what causes acne?
There are four common types of acne, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and cysts. They develop when pores in our skin become clogged. The cause of this is called sebum, which is an oil in our skin. Our bodies make more sebum because of our hormones. This is why acne attacks occur during puberty. This is also why women often breakout before their periods. Since hormones fluctuate in the years leading up to menopause, many women still get acne in their 40s and 50s.
People get different kind of acne. It varies depending on the skin type and other factors. What happens inside the clogged pore determines the type of acne that can occur. A blackhead appears when sebum and dead skin cells clog the pore. While the pore is clogged, its surface remains open. This lets us look into the pore and see a black color. Your dermatologist may call this as open comedo.
On the other hand, a whitehead forms when the excess oil and dead skin cells clog the pore and block the opening of the pore. This is often called the open comedo.
The excess oil does not only clog pores. The bacteria that lives on our skin stays in this excess oil. Immersed in excess oil, the bacteria can rapidly increase in number. When the multiplies in a clogged pore, inflammation occurs. This inflammation is what causes a pimple to look red, hot, and swollen.
An acne cyst is formed when inflammation reaches deep into the core of our skin. This can be the most severe type of acne. They are often very painful. You can see deep scarring when this kind of pimple heals. But how do we prevent acne from forming in our skin?Remember to wash your face about twice each day with a mild soap and warm water. Do not wash it more often. Use a benzoyl peroxide and spot treat your acne but do not overuse.
Never try to pop your pimples. This may push the infection further down, causing more blocking and worse swelling and redness. This will also lead to scarring.
Refrain yourself rom touching your face with your hands. Keep your hands clean and wash them regularly.
If your acne is on your back, shoulders or chest try wearing loose clothing. Always wear clean clothes.
Never go to sleep with makeup on. Only use makeup that is nonceomedogenic or nonacnegenic – you should be able to read this on the label.
Hair collects sebum and skin residue. Keep your hair clean and away from your face.
Stay away from the sun because this will just help produce more sebum.
